Jewish Inspiration in 60 Seconds or Less, by Rabbi Moshe Katz
Hope you’re having a great day.
This has been an amazing week for me!
And I’ll tell you why,
As you may remember?
My nephew Yehuda suffered serious spinal injury in a terrible car accident.
And he is one of the most amazing people I have ever met.
I have shared many “Yehuda stories” over the last few years.
And I wanted to follow up on one of them.
Yehuda’s faith and determination are inspiring.
But his body is very fragile.
And over the Passover holiday four years ago?
Yehuda had a huge setback.
I don’t know the exact details, but it was very serious.
Thank G-d, he bounced back.
And he came out better and stronger than he was before!
… Fast forward to June 26th, 2012 .
Yehuda’s daughter Asna graduates from a Yeshiva high school in Montreal.
Her proud father is able to make the trip from Ottawa to Montreal to be there.
And not only is he there.
He is the guest speaker!
And what does he talk to the graduates about?
Careers? Conquering the world?
He talks about saying thank you!
And appreciating every moment of life!
He tells them that as they enter the next exciting phase of their lives?
They should know that there will be challenges.
But whatever challenge comes their way?
There will always be a reason to say thank you!
… Then this incredible young man talks to his daughter.
What does he say to her from his wheelchair?
It went something like this.
“Asna, you were given a very difficult and painful challenge.
How you have responded to that challenge makes me very proud.
But there is something you should know.
You can turn your challenge into a blessing.
Because your experience gives you a unique opportunity.
The ability to reach out to others in pain.
You can give them hope. You can give them strength.
And you can tell them, “I understand.”
… Fast forward to March 31st, 2016.
The Jewish community of Ottawa “rocks”!
Yehuda’s daughter Asna got married!
It was literally the wedding of the century!
I can not begin to describe the joy in the room!
And I think every single guest felt it was a privilege to be part of it!
Asna has become a beautiful young lady.
She recently earned her master’s in special education.
And she’s on her way to fulfill her father’s charge!
… We should all be inspired by Yehuda.
And whatever challenge comes our way?
As he said at the graduation, we should find a reason to say “thank you”.
And I say…
“Thank G-d that I have a nephew like Yehuda!”
All the best,
