Ottawa Jewish Community School lost a treasured member of its family this year.  Rabbi Yehuda Simes started at Hillel Academy in 2002 and was a dedicated teacher until his tragic accident in June 2010. He was a teacher par excellence.  Rabbi Simes didn’t lecture – his classes were always interactive. He had the greatest respect for his students and colleagues. Rabbi Simes was always striving to learn new ways to teach in order to keep the students involved and challenged. He always looked for innovative ways to motivate the students. Rabbi Simes believed very strongly that you had to work very hard to be a good teacher.

We are very grateful to Rabbi David Rotenberg and his family for inaugurating an award in Rabbi Simes’ memory.  Jewish education was of paramount importance to Rabbi Simes and this is a beautiful gesture on their part.

We are honoured to sponsor this award in perpetuity in memory of our dear friend Rabbi Simes. He was a wonderful classroom teacher, and an even better teacher outside of it. We miss him dearly.
