Thank you Rabbi for my baby!

Over the past 8 years, we have had many caregivers & nurses for Rabbi. During the last year of Rabbi’s life, a nurse named Asfin worked for us. Asfin was a bright, friendly, & caring addition to our team. We maintained a friendly and cordial relationship with her. We exchanged the usual pleasantries but didn’t know too much about her. That is, until, last Thursday.

We received a text from Asfin:

One day I asked Rabbi to pray for me so I have a son who is a good man like him and smiles all day like he does. I think he did.

I am sending you a picture of my son. Don’t know how else to say thanks to Rabbi.

Upon receiving the text, I called Asfin to congratulate her. I was also very curious as to the story behind the text. Asfin explained that she had suffered from infertility for 8 years. She had admired Rabbi so much for his strength and determination. Despite being in pain and suffering a hard life, he was always happy. She always saw a smile on his face. As she said in her text, she asked him to pray for her.

Of course, we can not explain how Hashem runs the world or why things happen. Yet, what Asfin learned from Rabbi is a lesson for all of us. She reported that her baby is the happiest little boy with a constant smile on his face.

No, his name is not Rabbi or even Yehuda! Yet, in her native language, his name means Sunshine.
